Three People Walk Into A Bar . . .

This post goes with today’s daily prompt (which was, shhh, my suggestion). :) Enjoy!

Three people walk into a bar, the man at the door smiles, at them, and nods. Music honks and stomps it’s way into the street. A muggy atmosphere hangs over the avenue, filled with music and shouting and singing and laughing.

Four people, a family, watch the three go inside, consult their phones, then walk farther down the road to another bar, and go inside. There, a trombone player takes center stage while a small group of dancers prance in the center of the room.

Christmas lights line the walls, as well as pictures, album covers and old advertising posters for wine and spirits. The older two of the family drink beer while the younger two sip at sparkling water. The youngest reads a Garfield comic collection. The music is very loud.

When the night is over, the family drives back to the house where they are staying, in their little red, rented car.

Well, it wasn’t very funny was it? Hmm. Oh well.

Can you guess where this story takes place? Have any good “three people walk into a bar” jokes? Leave ‘em in the comments!

Clap Your Clams!

Hey guys! Recognize this:

clamscreenshotIt’s this blog! Today I want to talk about the part that is in the red box. It says:

If you’re happy and you know it, clap your clams! *clap clap*

I don’t know if any of you have ever wondered what “clap your clams” means, but if you have, I am here to do a bit of explaining.

If you didn’t know, this line is based off the song that goes: If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands! During the song, you clap and stomp and dance. Well, I outfitted it to go with this blog by changing “hands” to “clams”. But how do you actually clap your clams? I made this handy dandy GIF to show you:
Clap Your Clams

That’s how you clap your clams! It doesn’t make much noise, unlike regular clapping, but that’s okay. Now you can sing the song and do the dance together.

So that’s all I really had to say about the tagline, sorry that there’s no dramatic backstory. :)

The Secret World of Blogging

Sometimes I feel like blogging is it’s own secret world, or a club, or something like it. And all the people who read your blog are also part of the club. So when you see someone outside, while you’re walking down the sidewalk, wearing a WordPress Word Camp 2006 t-shirt, you just want to run up to them and hug them, because they are just like you, even if you don’t know them. But instead, you walk right past them, and nod politely, because you’re in public, and NO ONE can learn about the secret club that is a community of bloggers. First rule about blog-club: we don’t talk about blog-club. :)

That’s so state!

Today’s Daily Prompt: Today, give a word an evolutionary push: give a common word a new meaning, explain it to us, and use it in the title of your post.

State. What is “state?” Is it a place or an adjective? Today it’s the latter.

I’m presenting to you a new way of describing something patriotic or representative. Because, honestly, when someone says: “Your hat’s so patriotic!” do you think about something hip and new in fashion or a dorky, red-white-and-blue paper novelty? I would think of cheap, paper dorkfest. Even if you like the hat, it may come off sounding sarcastic or rude (not that anything is bad with being patriotic, just that “patriotic” clothes are usually kinda dorky, in my opinion).

Let’s practice:

Dude, that’s so state!

Saying that something’s “state,” doesn’t have to mean that it’s patriotic, too, it can just be something that very obviously represents something.

So next time you see someone wearing a basketball jersey or a Cal Sweatshirt, remember to compliment them

The Key Takeaway

Today’s Daily Prompt: Give your newer sisters and brothers-in-WordPress one piece of advice based on your experiences blogging.

My advice for new bloggers, and long-time bloggers, is that you just have to keep posting. Even if you are uninspired, or not feeling too great, you’ve got to keep on keepin’ on. If I don’t have a great, totally planned out idea (which is almost always), I will write an “update” post where I talk about what’s going on in my life. There’s no real message/meaning to these posts, I just want to keep sharing with my readers. For me, the goal of blogging is to share my experiences and writing, but also to entertain my readers, and I feel that if I keep posting, I’ll have a better chance of doing so.

I hope this advice was beneficial to some of you!

The Jungle Bed

Hey guys! This afternoon, my brother and I decorated his bunk bed . . . in a jungle theme! It’s pretty cool if I do say so myself. Backstory: my dad was cutting branches off a tree in front, so we took them and decided to use them to decorate, here are some pictures.

This is what the bed looks like.

We used some hemp string to tie the branches the the bed and the ladder.

My brother designed the face for the mask and we put it together using construction paper.

We decorated this board to look like a totem pole. It has a dream catcher on top.

I Lied. And Poetry!

Hehe. Looks like I lied in that last post, where I said I didn’t have anything to blog about. Because, I just remembered that I do. And it’s poetry (snaps for that)! These are some poems that I just turned in for a school assignment. Enjoy!

Mean

she glares at you,
eyes brown as the
reaching branches of
scraggly trees.
she does not smile,
and her teeth grind together,
like a flour mill
under a perturbed gray sky.
she shifts angrily
in her seat
like a dog growling softly, and
she talks with an
aggressive politeness
like an egret snapping
up a bug out of the pond
with it’s long sharp beak.

Hair

don’t you hate the hair on your neck?
the scratchy strands
grating against your skin.
in the middle of the day
when you’re hot and tired
you put it up
but want to chop it off.
or in the dark night
when a piece of hair feels like
a spider crawling down your back
you jump!
and your hair flops around
swirling down
to rest on your neck.

~

Well.

I feel like I have nothing to say. Nothing to write about, I’m uninspired. I guess it’s writer’s block. And it sucks.
I keep looking at this blog, I keep clicking the link to it, and I keep reading the same title over and over again, and I don’t write anything else.
I’m sorry, for you and me. For you: I haven’t been posting much, you’re probably bored and uninterested in this blog. Sorry. For me: Sorry that you can’t think of anything, but please do soon, they’re most likely getting impatient.
I feel like there are some things I could write about, but I don’t cause they don’t make me want to write about them. Argh.

Is there anything you guys want to read about? Reviews, stories (fiction or non-fiction), anecdotes, poems? Please, help me think of something!

Family Time

Hey guys! Well, I only got one question for Ask Me Stuff #2, and I will be answering that today. I probably will not do an Ask Me Stuff thing again, because it doesn’t seem to be catching on. However, if you ever want to message me, you can scroll your mouse over the page name “Me and The Blog” and click on “Talk to Me!”. Sorry if I don’t sound very enthusiastic, it was very hot today and I am really tired. Without further ado, the answer to a question!

little poppits asked: What is your favorite thing to do as a family?

I really like eating out with my family and celebrating holidays. Halloween is fun because when we are done trick or treating, we stay up late eating and sorting candy. We don’t do this much anymore, but for Christmas, we used to fly out to New York and spend time with our cousins, and it’s always nice to see them since we live so far away from each other.
I think just anything that is not in the “norm”, doing those wacky, new, adventure-y things with family is really fun.

Okay. I’ll be posting more soon. I hope you guys are having a good week so far! Bye!
